Train to Otaru is pretty convenient. It has 3 to 6 trips per hour depending on the timing and takes about 41 mins, ( rapid ) to 51mins,( local ).
As I walked out of Otaru station, I saw a bus stopping at the bus stop (can't remember the number)
I asked "Kono basu wa Tenggu ni iku?" (this bus go to mt. tenggu?)
The driver nodded his head and I boarded. (secretly, I felt proud of myself being able to ask in such a rush moment) I prepared the coins in my hands, the fare will be show clearly on a panel near the front where we will alight. It took about 20mins or less, I was enjoying my ride. Anyway it's the last stop, so no worry.
(always prepare coins for taking the buses unless you hold a travel card)
I had practiced a few Japanese sentences and tried to use whenever I could, even when sometimes I know the way. This way I will be more confident to use in times when I really need. "Arigato gozaimashita" (Thank you) is most important to practice. But a lot of Japanese do understand or speaks English now compared to last visit. (years ago)
I had planned to hike up and take cable car down. But the place look pretty quiet and see no one hiking up, I have no confident to do it alone, hence I changed my plan and took cable car both ways. I met more locals than tourist.(may be they are tourist too) Most come in a family with little children and quite a number of old couples. I really admired them. It's such a beautiful scene to see them so lovely after all long years.
Ropeway ¥ 1150 return,¥ 680 one way
bus ¥220 or ¥750/day
Otaru Mt. Tengu Ropeway to the top of Mt. Tengu, a 532m mountain to the south of the Otaru city centre, and you can look out over Ishikari Bay and the Shakotan Peninsula. The Otaru night scenery is particularly beautiful.

I strolled the place leisurely and took a walk almost alone. I met a group of Japanese as I was removing my jacket. "Hotto." "hi, hotto" They smiled and agreed. They told me it's a short route , 1/2 hr in half English n mix Japanese.
The air was crisp, my mood was carefree and the walk was comfortable. I have the chirping birds, autumn beauty and the cool breeze to keep me occupied.

I took the bus back to the station and walked to Otaru canal, then I ventured away from crowds into other lanes .
( I supposed the more popular shops are just across the street as I noticed the crowds there)

This afternoon I planned for a buffet and my Owl cafe. Then I noticed I had totally forgotten my buffet!
