Taipei and Okinawa, part 6
Taipei-Keelung
We have about 3.5 hrs stop in Keelung. The previous taxi man quoted us NT500/hr if we hire his taxi. I thought it would be good to have 2 hours to go Nanya Rocks and Jiufen old street, but Choo thinks its a bit $$, hence we skip the plan. It would be too risky for us to take a bus up. First, it's a weekday and the bus is hourly basis to Nanya Rocks. If we missed a bus, taxi may not be easy from Nanya Rocks. Hence, we decided just stay in Keelung. It could be fun too.
First, we get our phone card! The to Keelung night market!
Twice, while waiting for our food to be prepared, a different man holding a plastic bag came near to me. It was obvious we are tourist as I have my camera with me. Both man would try to stand near me, when I pretended to move away. They followed. And the crowd wasn't there yet, and they both never order anything. After a few times, then they walked away. Going for new target? I hope I am wrong about this and it was just both coincidence. Nevertheless, be very careful with your belongings. Always keep money and travel documents safe in front of you. Always remember to zip your bag too.
We read as 5 types of mixed, but it seem only 2 type of flavours. It is piping hot!
our verdict : average
The cuttle fish is bbq sightly over the grill, and some sweet sauce was applied. We would enjoyed it more if it is just grilled to crispy without the sauce. May be just for dipping and not applied on it. The cuttlefish is good. :))
wow, he cut according to each order! |
Somehow, we strolled to the end of the street quite quickly. Further down , we discovered this eating place and tried it. our verdict : good
I would want to enjoy more food from the old street.

Okinawa - Ishigaki
Today, we are doing a separate trip. Choo joined the cruise excursion which I feel $$. I would go for the snorkelling trip but the tour counter told me I am the only one registering!! They will need at least 10 to form a trip. Hence, I would do a self exploring!
As the ship was docking, I did a quick study if I would leave the port easily. It look fine and there were already many taxis waiting in queue. Many of us were waiting excitedly. They were mostly " free and easy" guests from their conversation! Anyway, those following tour has to assemble early for their priority disembarkment. There were a few buses waiting for them already.
Then one lady asked if I want to join them. They are going free and easy. She say they have a mini bus so more could join. Then another lady also asked me, but she is with here family of four. Taxi will probably not take 5, if we take a 6 seater, it may cost more for them and not fare to them either.
Finally, we all joined the first lady. She seem pretty experienced and we actually disembarked with the tour group!
We started with our shopping at a "pharmacy" shop, about 5 minutes walk from port.( along the road out to the main road. It hand a Chinese word "medicine". Anyway it is on the left hand side of the street and look like a mini supermarket". Here , we all ended with big packets of staffs. Most Taiwanese seem to know what they wanted exactly and quickly get their buy. I followed too. Heee......
Then we proceed to fill our stomach....
some activity |
They are a few supermarkets here and restaurants too. Later , we saw some cruise bus too.
I enjoyed my Sashimi at a corner with some Taiwanese family. The grandfather asked me many questions. He say they were from KaoShiong. They had to travel a few hours to Keelung to join the cruise and back. He seem very happy. 3 generations travelling together. A very common scene on board the cruise here. Thumbs up!
There were a lot of benches around and a huge car park.
All the supermarkets seem as busy.
I love this place. I forgot to ask, too busy with my camera!!!
Kabira Beach
Once we alighted, we enjoyed the popular "salted" ice-cream. There are other flavours too like green tea. I enjoyed the "salted" ice-cream. A little salty in between the sweet ice-cream we normally have. Quite refreshing too. I think the green tea should be good too. Wish I could have both.
shops b-4 the beach |
It would be great if we could stay longer and swim. I was the only person who walked into the water and nobody else, not even the young ones. Hence I supposed we only strolled along the beach to the other end, but I enjoyed it too.
The water is very cooling. There were a few other people swimming and having fun. So I stayed for awhile, did some selfie and joined the group.
I think this is the place where they showed you the weaving.(no photo) The best thing was- we were allowed to dress some of the Kimono and take photos for free. There is a lot of souvenirs here too.
I saw 2 "monkeys" hugging on to the trunk!
A very interesting sight where everybody is doing selfie, including me!
look at the crowd! |
Somehow the smell here wasn't very pleasant, though I saw a cafe around.
Most ended up at the ice-cream shop again! It sells everything made of salt, from cookies to ice-cream to beauty product. I was keen to buy a body scrub but the shop assistants were too busy with the queue for the ice-cream.
A little Japanese boy (5 or 6 years old) was trying the rice with some salted mixed spice. He showed his thumb up and speak to me. He pointed out to me to try. Hahaha...I did. the little rice ball was neatly wrapped and there were so many spice to try. I tried two and like it. Try to find in the shop but failed.
We were supposed to wait for our bus here. I recognized some of our group members. Suddenly, I noticed the free wifi, and got excited. After a while, the crowd seem to be quieter, so I looked up just in time to see our bus closed its door and leaving. I quickly took my bag and run to the bus, but it has turned into the centre lane and left. I run after it for a few seconds then realized it's pointless. I give up and walked back. I dug into my pocket for the little paper that the cruise had given us, so I could take a taxi back to the port. Then I saw a member of our group there on the bench! I asked him if he missed the bus too. He told me the bus is not here yet. HAHAHA! I chased the wrong bus, all bus come to pick its passengers at the same spot. Just "no waiting" I think. What a way to end my day!
